What is Y2K Fashion and How To Style Y2K Jewelry? (2024)

In with the old and out with the new, 2000's Y2K fashion is back! Get ready to bring baggy pants and baguette bags back into your wardrobe.

Everything in fashion seemingly always has a second life and low-rise wide leg denim jeans are making a full comeback in 2021. With style icons like Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa donning all the hallmark style items of the early 2000's, you can be sure that Y2K is here to stay, (at least for the 2021 style cycle anyway).

What is Y2K Fashion?

Inspired by late 90's and 2000's fashion, Y2K represents an era of loud and proud fashion that was all about making a statement. Think 'gemstone logo crop tops with hip banger bedazzled jeans and a fluro pink feather boa' type of energy. 😘

Y2K stands for Year 2000 problem and was actually used to refer to a computer formatting issue. Alas, now in 2021, Y2K refers to a fashion era that was ruled by the the women of pop culture. Stand out icons include Paris Hilton, Destiny's Child, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Devon Aoki.

With a fearless approach to colour-matching clothes and accessories, Y2K meant being 100% confident in your own skin. Outfit details included lightly tinted square lens sunglasses, chunky gold necklaces, body chains and intricately woven hair styles (with some kind of glitter of course). Like the relationship between Jennifer López and Ben Affleck, the Y2K comeback feels exciting and almost inevitable. Either way, we are going to embrace it with open arms!

How To Style Y2K Fashion & Jewelry?

When thinking about Y2K fashion, you want to think big. Once you've got an idea in your head, multiply that by 10, add some gemstones or large statement hoops and that's what you'll end up walking out the house in.

For our Y2K Drop, we took inspiration from our favourite 2000's icons and mixed it together with our signatureS-kin aesthetic to create our very own version of Y2K. For our looks, we were definitely vibing chic modern streetwear with 90's inspired crops and pants.

When creating the jewelry for this collection, we went for a 'go big or go home' attitude and ended up making some of our favourite statement chains. We even ended up turning our cult-favourite bracelets into chunky chain necklaces.

Necklaces

Toaccompany our classic Harlow Chunky Chain, we created the Y2K era inspired Christina Chunky Chain Necklace (using the same chain as our Sancia Bracelet) and the Naomi Chunky Chain Necklace (using the same chain as the Gia Bracelet). And of course, we couldn't forget the Y2K icon herself, Paris Hilton. So, to commemorate her we created the timeless and elegantParis Flat Bracelet, as inspired by our favourite Adelina Flat Choker Necklace.

Earrings

In addition to the mix, we thought back to our low riding bedazzled pants days and knew we had to add these Devon Statement Lock Hoops into the collection. Adorned with some classic early 2000's gemstones, these cute hoops make the perfect base for a unique ear stack. We also added the Mariah Square Hoops and Britney Chunky Hoopsas not to disappoint our Y2K queens.

Whilst inspired by Y2K, these fun and limited edition gold fill pieces will be sure to make a statement in your wardrobe no matter how you style them. So, even if you won't be hopping on the Y2K train this time round, these iconic chunky chains and hoops won't be going out of fashion anytime soon. A single chunky gold chain will always add a layer of decadence to anything you're wearing.

From the Y2K Drop, Steph wears the Britney Chunky Hoops, Devon Statement Lock Hoops, Christina Necklace and Sancia Bracelet.

Similar to the days when you'd have to rush to your local Sanity to buy the new special edition Britney Spears album, these one-off handcrafted pieces will definitely be limited and in high demand.

As all trends go, make it your own and don't be afraid to try something new if it speaks to you. Whilst there are some 2000's trend that I'd rather forget about, (like pale pink lipsticks andvirtually invisible thin eyebrows😖).I'm personally going to be embracing our Paris Flat Bracelet as part of my everyday look and theNaomi Chunky Chain Necklace with some baggy denim and a crop top for a fun and casual weekend look.

I hope that you'll find something that you love from this capsule collection and we can't wait to see how you style your Y2K inspired pieces!
