Friends and colleagues, I am excited to announce our rebranding effort. We have a new name, a spiffy new logo and website, and all-new swag (I confess, my WWC Global Yeti makes me inordinately happy). But the core of the company— and our mission— hasn’t changed in 15+ years. We will continue to put good government into practice for our Federal clients around the country and around the world.

I *always* love speaking to the vetpreneurs in all of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families - IVMF programs, every time I get to do it. Today, I got to speak to a cohort through the Wounded Warrior Project here in Tampa, and I'm energized by every last one of them. AND my friends at IVMF remembered my post from the airport the last time I spoke, when I had to leave my General's Hot Sauce from my speaker swag bag with my Uber driver since it wouldn't have made it through security. I got my hot sauce and actually get to use it this time!!

This is so cool. I just saw an Op Ed about the concept of “humanitarian bubbles“ in Gaza in the discussion about “the day after.” I am lucky enough to be surrounded by some brilliant military strategic minds, and asked one of them what they thought of the concept. Jeremiah Monk recently developed an AI tool around military strategy, and fed the question to the tool. Here’s what came out!https://lnkd.in/ebDwN69z

**Forget the sandwich generation, this is the Panini generation**You may have heard of the sandwich generation, where adults are squished between aging parents and children. I think that analogy feels way too passive. Sandwiches have bread placed gently on either side. Paninis use extreme heat and pressure to change the entire make-up of the sandwich. But even paninis only have pressure applied from above and below, so really, a multidimensional panini press might even be more apropos. In a 24-hour period from yesterday morning to this morning, we dropped off our “extra daughter“ to the airport for summer camp because her mom had emergency surgery. I took my dad to the emergency room to find that he had two broken vertebrae (again). Got him discharged and into my husband‘s car in time for me to jump into my car to get to a professional networking event where I was set to speak (after changing clothes in the car). And then I became forever in debt to one of our other hockey families when we switched flights around so that they could take my daughter to Toronto for a tournament this morning so I could stay with my dad. Some really important lessons from the Panini Generation trenches: ** Sometimes, despite the best planning, everything will go off the rails all at once.Improvise, adapt, and overcome. ** What’s the best way to eat an elephant? One bite at a time. You can’t tackle everything all at once, but you can tackle one thing, and then the next, and then the next. And keep breathing as you do.** The “balance“ and the lines between personal and professional doesn’t exist. Forget dividing your life into neat little boxes. It’s all human, and all of it is messy at times. ** The power of your support network is invaluable. But remember that you can’t be afraid to use it. People want to help. This may not seem like a professional post, but I think it’s important for people to see the mess behind the curtain in a professional context, especially with someone that— on the surface at least— has “made it.” Who else is managing this crazy balance? And what other tips do you have from the trenches? #WorkLifeChaos #PaniniGeneration #LaurenWittenbergWeiner

I find that the best way I can "celebrate" Memorial Day is to humanize what this day means to way too many of my friends. Please take a moment to read my friend Lisa's post, and take just a moment to reflect on the sacrifice of her husband John, her kids, and Lisa herself-- and all of those who have traveled in their shoes.

Let's talk about toxic corporate culture, with the FDIC as an object lesson. It appears, from what seems to be a thorough external review, that FDIC culture has allowed "hostile, abusive, unprofessional and inappropriate conduct" and a culture that is "misogynistic, patriarchal, insular, and outdated." It was so long-standing, and so widespread, that it was clearly systematic. More than 500 employees reported incidents in the report, including some seriously eye-popping accusations. But what struck me, in this report, is that the Chairman isn't actually accused of any wrongdoing around harassment or the like... but his leadership absolutely allowed this culture to thrive, because he would berate and punish anyone who brought bad news or differing views to the fore. Formally and informally, people at FDIC did not feel they could raise these issues up the chain. As a leader, it is critical to be *truly* open to feedback, even when it is not complimentary. Nobody and no organization is perfect. Honest and open feedback is critical for growth. But that means checking your ego, not getting defensive, and being open to change even when it is hard. If you can't do that, you aren't ready to be a leader. https://lnkd.in/eQn_sKRV

Hey, Rep. Scott Perry ... the 1950s called, and even THEY don't want you back.Yes, we ask military families to sacrifice for their country, and yes, they are more than willing to do it. But. But we have an all volunteer force with recruiting, retention, and readiness challenges, and we need to make it easier for military families whenever we can-- because why WOULDN'T we try to support those who defend us? This one is a no brainer. It isn't just good for the military families themselves... it is clearly good for our government mission. Helping eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles to retain great talent in both our military and our civilian ranks? OH, THE HORROR!https://lnkd.in/ern2p5Jf
